【摘要】:Thisguideisintendedtoaiddevicefabricatorsintheselectionofpropercommerciallyavailablepolyurethanesolidsandsolutionsfortheirapplication.Thepolyurethanescoveredbythisguidemaybethermoformedorsolutioncastintobiomedicaldevicesforuseassurgicalaidsorforimplantationasdeterminedtobeappropriate,basedonsupportingbiocompatibilityandphysicaltestdata.1.1Thisguidecoverstheevaluationofthermoplasticpolyurethanesinbothsolidandsolutionformforbiomedicalapplications.Thepolymershavebeenreactedtocompletionandrequirenofurtherchemicalprocessing.1.2Thetestsandmethodslistedinthisguidemaybereferencedinspecificationcontainingminimumrequiredvaluesandtolerancesforspecificend-useproducts.1.3Standardtestsforbiocompatibilityareincludedtoaidintheassessmentofsafeutilizationinbiomedicalapplications.Compliancewiththesecriteriashallnotbeconstruedasanendorsementofimplantability.Sincemanycompositions,formulations,andformsofthermoplasticpolyurethanesinsolidandsolutionformsarewithinthismaterialclass,theformulatororfabricatormustevaluatethebiocompatibilityofthespecificcompositionorformintheintendeduseandaftercompletionofallmanufacturingprocessesincludingsterilization.1.4Purchasespecificationsmaybepreparedbyagreementbetweenthebuyerandsellerbyselectionofappropriatetestsandmethodsfromthoselistedapplicabletothespecificbiomedicalenduse.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
