【摘要】:Thistestmethodusesahigh-resolutiongamma-rayspectrometerasabasisformeasuringthegamma-rayemissionrateof137Cs-137mBainadilutenitricacidsolutioncontaining10mg/Lofcesiumcarrier.Nochemicalseparationofthecesiumfromthedissolved-fuelsolutionisrequired.Theprincipalstepsconsistofdilutingaweighedaliquotofthedissolved-fuelsolutionwithaknownmassof1Mnitricacid(HNO3)andmeasuringthe662keVgamma-raycountratefromthesample,thenmeasuringthe662keVgamma-raycountratefromastandardsourcethathasthesamephysicalformandcountinggeometryasthesample.Theamountoffuelsamplerequiredfortheanalysisissmall.Forasamplecontaining0.1goffuelirradiatedtooneatompercentfission,anetcountrateofapproximately105countspersecondwillbeobservedforacountinggeometrythatyieldsafull-energypeakefficiencyfractionof1x00D7;10-3.Theadvantageofthissmallamountofsampleisthattheconcentrationoffuelmaterialcanbekeptatlevelswellbelow1g/L,whichresultsinnegligibleself-absorptioninthesamplealiquotandasmallradiationhazardtotheanalyst.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationofthenumberofatomsof137Csinaqueoussolutionsofirradiateduraniumandplutoniumnuclearfuel.Whencombinedwithamethodfordeterminingtheinitialnumberoffissileatomsinthefuel,theresultsofthisanalysisallowsatompercentfission(burn-up)tobecalculated(1).Thedeterminationofatompercentfission,uraniumandplutoniumconcentrations,andisotopicabundancesarecoveredinTestMethodsE267andE321.1.2137Csisnotsuitableasafissionmonitorforsamplesthatmayhavelostcesiumduringreactoroperation.Forexample,alargetemperaturegradientenhances137Csmigrationfromthefuelregiontocoolerregionssuchastheradialfuel-cladgap,or,toalesserextent,towardstheaxialfuelend.1.3Anonuniform137Csdistributionshouldalerttheanalysttothepotentiallossofthefissionproductnuclide.The137Csdistributionmaybeascertainedbyanaxialgamma-rayscanofthefuelelementtobeassayed.Inamixed-oxidefuel,comparisonofthe137Csdistributionwiththedistributionofnonmigratingfission-productnuclidessuchas95Zror144Cewouldindicatetherelativedegreeof137Csmigration.1.4ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Nootherunitesofmeasurementareincludedinthisstandard.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
